Understand your options
Veneers are thin facings placed over the front of teeth. They may be considered for selected appearance concerns. Alternatives can include whitening, bonding or orthodontic treatment, depending on the problem.
When to arrange a consultation
- Chipped edges or concerns about tooth shape
- Discolouration you would like assessed
- A wish to compare veneers with other smile treatments
What to discuss at your visit
- Discuss the specific changes you would like and your expectations.
- Assess tooth and gum health and how your teeth meet.
- Compare suitable approaches and explain any tooth preparation.
- Discuss materials, limitations, maintenance and costs before treatment.
Planning your treatment and cost
An estimate depends on the number of teeth involved, the material and preparation required, and any other dental work. Ask what future repairs or replacements may involve as well as the initial treatment cost.
Your questions, answered
Do veneers require tooth preparation?
Some veneers require removal of enamel. That change can be irreversible. Ask how much preparation is proposed and which alternatives could preserve more tooth structure.
Are veneers the same as crowns?
No. Veneers mainly cover the front surface; crowns cover more of a prepared tooth. Suitability depends on tooth condition and the treatment objective.
Will veneers straighten my teeth?
Veneers can change appearance but do not move teeth. If alignment is the concern, ask whether orthodontic treatment is more appropriate.
